I am starting to read up a little about Hine and it is useful to make the distinction between culture and cultural artefact. Still getting my head around all the new terminologies and discussions! I do wonder at the extent to which they use 'culture' as a synonym for 'the internet' though.I understand what they are saying - that the culture of the internet knows few distinctions between national cultures, let alone national boundaries. It flattens things out. Yet it somehow doesn't seem helpful to simply take 'the internet' and replace it with 'culture'. I think I prefer Christine Hines view, which sees the internet as both a culture and a cultural artefact...
