Week Six #ededc

Week 6 has been a little confusing (to do with me, not #ededc). I’m trying to contend with (again) the academic nature of design, previously I’ve been battling with ‘Art’ as an investigation into the existent, now it appears that design is in for the same treatment!

I started my investigation into my chosen virtual community (VC), this may not be complete until the beginning of the 7 week as I’m away from home. This investigation is very much lending on from previous posts, papers (and thinking). Design has been ubiquitous throughout my VC investigation, from my own interpretation and visual methods of investigation, to brand names (existent and virtual) that are embedded within my chosen VC.

So does design play a more important role in VC’s than we realise (?), and so what is the position of design in digital education? I’m tempted to create a brand identity for my VC, see what happens :0.

Bell, Hine and Kozinets appear to ignore design as a visual tool for understanding VC’s (as I’ve highlighted in a pervious post). The use of design as an investigative tool, and responding with design or visual methods is time consuming, and a high risk strategy (as I found out in MSCIDEL). If possible I will try and use design and visual methods within my VC artifact ;)
