Week 7 – review

Panic (ethical dilemma), calm (new topic), panic (not working on Tumblog), calm (2 entries done), PANIC (media not working), calm (media working).

To be continued…

…It’s Thursday of week eight and I’m doing a weekly summary for week seven. This about sums up how far behind I feel that I have dropped in the last few weeks, which has not been helped by a particularly punishing fortnight at work. But time is only one part of it. Another part of it is that I have still not got to grips with the concept of ethnography, despite having studied Hines (which I found quite circular and difficult), despite having viewed all of the past ededc-ers pieces and, of course, despite having attempted one myself.

I did change ethnographic subjects part way through, which although adding to the pressure, did provide me with some quick and easy posts for my Tumblog. And I’m glad that I was able to air at least some of my thinking around guerilla gardening, and they actually do have some meaning in my learning around ethics and data capture.

As far as it goes I quite like my little study, but I’m not convinced it is an ethnography, however micro. I did allow format to dictate content, which has been an interesting and puzzling experience because it raises questions about the balance between presentation and content.

I’ve also not got to grips with the notion of ‘community’ but this worries me less. We know it’s a problematic term, so having problems with it is not a problem!
